Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is a form of therapy that focuses on your individual concerns and goals. It typically involves one-on-one sessions to help you identify and address underlying issues, develop effective coping strategies, and work towards achieving your desired outcomes. Through individual counseling, you can gain insight into yourself and your relationships, learn how to manage difficult emotions, and develop healthier ways of thinking and behaving.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling, also known as relationship therapy, is a form of therapy that focuses on helping couples improve their relationships and address any issues they may be facing. The goal of couples counseling is to help couples better understand and communicate with each other, and to find healthy ways to resolve conflicts, strengthen their relationship, and build a more fulfilling and satisfying connection.

Through couples counseling, couples can learn how to better express their needs and feelings, identify and address underlying issues, and develop strategies for managing disagreements and resolving conflicts.

How does the process work?

For some, seeing a therapist can be frightening, but it doesn’t have to be. I welcome the opportunity to work with you, and I want to offer you an overview of my process to help ease your mind and make the process relatively stress-free.

Initial Consultation.

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to get started. The conversation is designed to help us see if we're the right fit for each other. During our call, you'll learn more about my approach and services and have the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have. You deserve healing and peace, and I will never accept working with someone I am not entirely confident I can help.

Our First Session.

If we're a good fit, we'll schedule your first session at your earliest convenience. In our first session, my goal is to get to know you, your background, and your goals for counseling. I believe that having a strong therapeutic relationship is essential to help you make your goals a reality and to create a space where you feel respected, heard, safe, and validated. I will strive to create an environment that is free from bias and judgment, and that encourages you to feel safe, vulnerable, and open to exploring your thoughts and feelings.

Follow-Up Sessions.

In the following sessions, we'll work together to help you achieve your goals and promote your wellbeing. We'll focus on building a strong foundation for the future, while working together to navigate life's challenges.

FAQs

  • The therapeutic relationship is a true partnership that is based on mutual commitment. We’ll meet once a week for a 50-minute session. During our sessions, we’ll identify goals, and I’ll work with you to develop coping strategies that you’ll need to achieve your wellness outcomes. From me, you can expect transparency, authenticity, and a warm, compassionate environment. I am fully committed to providing you with care utilizing the highest standard of evidence-based treatments.

  • Your length of treatment is based on what you want to achieve. Some have clear, short-term goals that are readily achieved with consistent focus and effort. Others may have more ambitious goals or goals that require more intensive treatment, so that timeline may be longer.

  • I am in-network with Aetna, Oxford, and UnitedHealthcare.

If I am not in-network with your insurance, we can discuss out-of-network benefits to possibly obtain reimbursement from your insurance company. If out-of-network benefits are available to you, I will make every effort to assist you with accessing those benefits.

  • Many insurance plans now include mental health benefits that cover therapy. I’ve partnered with Headway to make the process even easier for my clients. Headway allows us to look up your benefits to check if your plan covers therapy. Additionally, you can reference your plan’s Explanation of Benefits or contact your insurance company for more details - including the cost of copays and/or deductibles if applicable.

If your plan covers therapy, you’ll want to find a therapist who is in-network with your insurance to make the most of your benefits.

  • I believe that couples therapy requires a unique skill set and approach that can be limited by insurance requirements. Insurance companies often have strict guidelines for documentation, reporting, and treatment goals that can detract from the therapy process. By not accepting insurance, I am able to offer a more individualized and flexible approach to couples therapy, tailoring it to the specific needs and goals of each couple. My commitment is to providing the highest quality of care to those I serve in couples therapy.

  • Counseling may be the most rewarding investment that you’ll ever make in yourself. To keep treatment affordable and to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, most clients utilize health insurance. If insurance isn’t an option, contact me so that we can discuss and explore alternatives. I’m a true believer in the value of counseling and urge you to get in touch so that we can discuss options.

  • Currently, I am not meeting with clients in person and only providing Telehealth services to those who are residents of New York and New Jersey.

  • The Federal No Surprises Act became effective on January 1, 2022. The law aims to help patients understand health care costs in advance of care and to minimize unforeseen — or surprise — medical bills.

As a patient, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your non-emergency medical care will cost. A good faith estimate shows the cost of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs. The estimate is based on information known when the estimate was created and can include costs related to your visits, such as medical tests, medications, equipment, and hospital fees.

Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, an any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. So make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
